Cebu City Philippines

We enjoyed much in our Bohol Adventure and we almost forget our schedule going back to Cebu. As promised by our friend it’s her turn to show us around Cebu City.  Cebu is the second capital of the Philippines and known as the oldest city in the country. On March 16, 1521 the Philippines was discovered my Ferdinand Magellan the Portuguese explorer, he landed in Cebu last April 7, 1521 and welcomed by the king Rajah Humabon.  Our first stop Taoist Temple though the temple is located away from the city we went there since it is also part of their tourist attraction. Since Philippines have trade relations with China and Japan in 9th Century, there’s no doubt that we have some Chinese influences. Magellan discovered Philippines but he died also in Philippines particularly in Mactan where there is a Mactan Shrine and a statue of Lapu-Lapu made of bronze and a 20 meter tall. Mactan island is the place where Lapu-Lapu, a native soldier who defeated Magellan in the battle of Mactan on 1521. Philippines are known to have so many festivals, and Cebu is known for Sinulog, we did not missed to drop by and go to Basilica de Sto. Niño.  Magellan Cross is situated nearby and just in front of the City Hall. The cross was planted by the Spaniards upon arriving in Cebu as per Magellan Ordered to them. What we missed only during our stay in Cebu that time is doing the skywalk and edge coaster at the top of Crown Regency Hotel.

Bohol Island Philippines

The day after the wedding of my brother me and my sister went to Cebu to meet my friend there and headed to Bohol for a short trip. First Stop Sagbayan-Peak – it is known to have a giant dinosaur known as T-rex. This dinosaur is fearsome to look and it is 19 feet in length and ten feet tall.  There was also some cartoon characters strewn in the area. Butterfly dome is also there. You can have also a sneak peak of their famous attraction the chocolate hills. Chocolate hills one of the wonders in the world.  As summer approaches the color change from green to brown that’s why the hills are being called chocolate by many.  We did not also missed to visit the man made forest. The famous Loboc river cruise lunch, eat all you can in their buffet. We did not miss also the hanging bridge made of bamboo. Close encounter with the Tarsier the smallest primate you can find in the Philippines particularly in Bohol Island. We went also to the place where blood compact monument is located, the area where the blood compact took place between the Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna the chieftain of Bohol to seal their friendship as part of the tribal tradition. This compact is considered as the first treaty of friendship between the Spaniards and Filipinos. Philippines were under Spanish colonization for 333 years that’s why 90% of Filipinos are Catholics. We stop at Baclayon Church and pray. This church is the second oldest stone church in the Philippines. We enjoyed our short trip and each one of us promise to comeback Bohol Island and explore some tourist attraction this island is offering.

Exploring Manila 2010

For one year of working here in Cambodia, My Company which I’m working gave me 21 days vacation leave.  I choose this month since my nephew will be celebrating his birthday and , wedding of my brother. The special part of this vacation was this is my first time to go home.  I travel alone same as the time when I came here in Cambodia.  My friend and cousin in Manila waited me at the airport because I decided to   stay there for 1 day and of course we chit chat at night even though I’m tired and in the morning we went to Manila Ocean Park as well as SM Mall of Asia (MOA).  I explore a little in Manila for I’m from Davao City and don’t know much or rather not familiar in the capital of Philippines. I was able to ride a bus, jeepney and taxi, but I don’t have a chance to explore Luneta where in fact this place is part of the History of my country. Well there’s always a next time. Here are some of the snap shoots.

LIKE VS. HATE

While I was going to sleep a poem come in to my thought. So here is it.

I like to see your smile, It makes you look younger
I like to see you pass by, It makes me happy
I like to see your nose sweating, It makes you cute.

BUT.......

I hate you when you smile; your smile keep linger in my mind
I hate you passes by, It makes my heartbeat faster
I hate to see your nose sweating; It makes me fall in love with it
I hate you all over because you're not REAL.

Snake House Sihanoukville Cambodia

I've been in these restaurant for so many times but I haven’t try to sit in their table where in there is a live snake under it.  It makes me feel uncomfortable well not only me maybe, for some of us.  When I first came I wonder why this restaurant named after the snake. Do they have specialty or part of their menu a snake?  My questions were not answered that time. We just dine and eat there though I seen already some snakes as part of their attraction. Second time we went there around 4pm we explore the area and now I know why it is called snake house. Aside from snakes all over the place there are also crocodiles, birds, bull frog, rare lizards and a big fish tank where you can see a lot of fishes. Travelers’ who do want to eat but want to go there for site seeing will pay but they will receive a can of beer or soft drink  which ever they like, but for some who will dine there can explore the area without payment.   Snake house is located at Sihanoukville, Cambodia near Victory beach.

Here are some of the species inside Snake House

Hanging Bridge

When were vacationing in Kampot we had also a chance to go to the Hanging bridge where one or shall I say part of their attraction in the area.  This bridge served as a road or way for the people living in the other side of the mountain. Though some people especially the locals who were also the same us, just went there for a tour take a bath under the bridge. I can see the gladness and happiness of them at that moment.  This is my first time to walk in the hanging bridge and I felt I’m going to fall down, looks like I’m a little bit afraid of heights.  As we go back to the base, lots and lots of seller, selling different kind of stuff, from fruits to toys and foods. We did not miss the chance of eating Durian so yummy…

God Gave Me You

For all the times I felt cheated, I complained
You know how I love to complain
For all the wrongs I repeated, though I was to blame
I still cursed that rain
I didn't have a prayer, didn't have a clue
Then out of the blue

God gave me you to show me what's real
There's more to life than just how I feel
And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes
And all that I live for though I didn't know why
Now I do, 'cause God gave me you

For all the times I wore my self pity like a favorite shirt
All wrapped up in that hurt
For every glass I saw, I saw half empty
Now it overflows like a river through my soul
From every doubt I had, I'm finally free
I truly believe

God gave me you to show me what's real
There's more to life than just how I feel
And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes
And all that I live for though I didn't know why
Now I do, 'cause God gave me you

In your arms I'm someone new
With ever tender kiss from you
Oh must confess
I've been blessed

God gave me you to show me what's real
There's more to life than just how I feel
And all that I'm worth is right before my eyes
And all that I live for though I didn't know why (didn't know why)
Now I do (I finally do), 'cause God gave me you (God gave me You)

God gave me you

Life

I've realized something today.

No mater how hard you try to plan your life,

Life has a plan for you all on its own.

Eleven Hints for Life

1. It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return.
But what is more painful is to love someone and never
find the courage to let that person know how you feel.

2. A sad thing in life is when you meet someone who
means a lot to you, only to find out in the end that it was
never meant to be and you just have to let go.

3. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a
porch swing with, never say a word, and then walk away
feeling like it was the best conversation you've ever had.

4. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose
it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been
missing until it arrives.

5. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone, an
hour to like someone, and a day to love someone-but it
takes a lifetime to forget someone.

6. Don't go for looks, they can deceive. Don't go for wealth,
even that fades away. Go for someone who makes you
smile because it takes only a smile to make a dark day
seem bright.

7. Dream what you want to dream, go where you want to go,
be what you want to be. Because you have only one life and
one chance to do all the things you want to do.

8. Always put yourself in the other's shoes. If you feel that it
hurts you, it probably hurts the person too.

9. A careless word may kindle strife. A cruel word may wreck
a life. A timely word may level stress. But a loving word may
heal and bless.

10. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best
of everything they just make the most of everything that comes along their way.

11. Love begins with a smile, grows with a kiss, ends with
a tear. When you were born, you were crying and everyone
around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die,
you're the one smiling and everyone around you is crying.
